A Family Trip to the Rosewood Bermuda

I first visited Bermuda back in 2018 with my sister and two of our best friends as an annual “girls trip.” We weren’t sure what to expect, and were absolutely blown away. We were looking for a quick weekend getaway, somewhere nearby, and had no idea the magic that awaited us! In my opinion, Bermuda is one of the most underrated destinations, particular if you live on the East Coast. Only a 90-minute flight from New York, you’re transported into another world. Bermuda’s beaches are consistently ranked the most beautiful in the world – and for good reason. The water is crystal clear, with shades of the brightest blues and turquoises you could imagine; the powder-soft sand is speckled with flecks of coral, giving it its famous pink hue; but what makes Bermuda’s beaches stand out are the dramatic rock formations that jut out of the water and form serene coves!

Flash forward to this year, and my husband and I were itching for a little getaway with our two kids. During my first visit I remember so clearly fantasizing over coming back someday with my children – the beaches and coves with their still and shallow water are so ideal for little kids. It was a dream to be able to make that vision a reality and return to Bermuda with my family of four!

We were delighted to stay at the Rosewood Bermuda, which is one of the most luxurious resorts on the island. With four pools to choose from and an expansive private beach, the property is idyllic and combines beautiful, pristine and comfortable accommodations with a stunning coastline and amenities.

Certain rooms (I believe it is the suites) include access to a golf cart during your stay. This was great, as it allowed us to easily get to and from the beach club area. Although even without your own cart, there are staff members always willing and ready to shuttle you back and forth!

The beach club is about a five minute drive from the main property and has a fun, casual, European feel. There is an adults-only pool as well as a family-friendly pool with splash fountains overlooking the beautiful beach! The restaurant is fantastic – I recommend the spicy BBQ fish sandwich and calamari for lunch – 10/10!

The main hotel area also has two pool options, which are both family-friendly, although the pool in the courtyard has a more formal feel. We spent a lot of time in the main pool with the kids, and there was always another child or two for them to play with. The main restaurant, the Brasserie, served a great breakfast buffet every morning as well as lovely dinner options in the evenings, with indoor and outdoor seating options.

The property also has its own expansive golf course, which my husband enjoyed, and a water sports center with tons of fun activity options! While we spent most of our time on property as there is so much to keep guests occupied, we did venture out to explore the island a bit one day. I know that they have a kids club that looks awesome for those traveling with children, but the minimum age is 5! They also offer babysitting, but we weren’t able to take advantage this time.

Bermuda is a British overseas territory, and you really feel the UK influence. Cars drive on the left side of the road, and tourists are not permitted to drive cars on the island at all. In 2018, we rented Twizy cars, which are like covered motorcycles for two people, and found it to be a fantastic way to zip around and explore the entire island. If you have children with you, however, this is not an option. We were able to arrange a taxi driver/tour guide through the Rosewood Bermuda (her name was Gloria and she was a gem if you end up wanting to do the same!)

I knew I wanted to bring the kids to my two favorite coves on the island, Jobson’s Cove and Horseshoe Bay Cove. While Horseshoe is the most famous beach on Bermuda, I have found Jobson’s to be my favorite because it is generally less crowded (if you go in the morning you will likely have it all to yourself!) and a just as beautiful, if not more beautiful! Both times I’ve been there, I’ve seen stunning purple and turquoise parrot fish right there swimming in the crystal clear water! Surreal! This time there was an octopus climbing up the side of one of the rock formations.

Gloria took us to these beautiful spots, but also showed us around some private destinations like the Coral Beach and Tennis Club – I had seen photos of the iconic yellow-and-white striped umbrellas here, and it was wonderful to get a glimpse in person! She told us so much about the history and culture of the island and made it really special. We also did a little driving tour of the main city, Hamilton, on our way back. We would have liked to stop in St. George’s as well (this is the charming, quaint colonial town area – highly recommend for exploring) but we ran out of time – always good to leave with something to come back for!

Our day exploring was a highlight of the trip, but we were happy to be back on property and enjoy the pools and beach once again.

Bermuda is sometimes mistaken as being one of the Caribbean islands, but it is actually located directly east of South Carolina, which is why the flight is so quick! The only downside to this is that the weather is cooler during the winter months, so I would say May to October are prime months to visit if you’re looking for a hot/tropical experience!

Thank you to Rosewood Bermuda for hosting us – we had such an amazing time and can’t wait to return!

  1. OMG it looks so pretty! Ive never been but have always been interested in going! Do you know if it is warm year round there?!

  2. It is so special. Truly feels like you have left the United States, in such a short amount of travel time. And the architecture is stunning. (Plus the pink buses!) One of my favorite places.
