I’ve been planning Peter’s Peter Rabbit-themed first birthday since before he was born. While this wasn’t the 50-guest party I had originally envisioned, we had the most special day with our family, in our very own Mr. McGregor’s garden, celebrating the sweet and curious boy who is the center of our world.
I gathered a few vintage Peter Rabbit items to display at the party, from a little blue “Tale of Peter Rabbit” book as well as a framed Beatrix Potter print that hung in my childhood room. A thoughtful friend gave me a vintage Peter Rabbit photograph book, which I filled with printed images from Peter’s first year.
To contribute to the “garden” feel, I made a masked trip to Whole Foods to choose the most beautiful carrots, radishes, and turnips I could find with the stems and leaves still intact. I also found purple cabbages, large green chard leaves, and even bok choy, which ended up making beautiful touches.
I wanted to have plenty of flowers to use as colorful accents in various baskets throughout the setup. I had ordered a Lewis Miller Flower Flash Box to arrive just in time, which included beautiful blue hyacinth and pink peonies. I also grabbed some extra bunches of tulips and little potted pink flowers while at the grocery store.
For paper goods, I used the adorable Meri Meri Peter Rabbit-themed line via Maisonette. The “concertina card” made the perfect accent to set in the center of the table and provided just the right touch of Beatrix Potter characters to stay true to the theme. I also ordered these beautiful blue cabbage dessert plates I had been eyeing from Alice Naylor-Leyland’s new line of tableware.
For linens, this blue gingham linen tablecloth from Target was just what I was looking for and I know I will continue to use it again and again in the future.
I am loving quilts lately and can’t have too many of them, as they’re perfect for sitting in the yard or in the park with Peter and always serve as cute backdrops to photograph him. I recently followed Stitched & Found on Instagram. She posts vintage quilts she finds every Thursday and I have to stop myself from buying one each week when she reveals a new selection! I used one of her quilts as the tablecloth for the cake table and love how it looked.
I ordered a Laura Ashley quilt-effect bedspread from Target and ended up using it as the tablecloth for the display table. It worked perfectly! It looks like the specific one I bought is now sold old, but I found this similar one from Wayfair that could be even cuter.
As finishing touches to the tablescape, I found these ceramic bunnies from Pottery Barn (similar options here, here, here). I also filled the tables with lots of terracotta pots that I ordered on Amazon in 5-inch and 3-inch size. This watering can I use for my garden and Peter’s mini Hunter boots were great additions to the tablescape as well.
I wore a LoveShackFancy dress from Koodeker, one of my favorite boutiques based in Salt Lake City. Peter wore a set from Daniel and Sofia, another favorite boutique of mine for children’s clothing.
It was such a special day we will never forget. Amid all the uncertainty in the world it was lovely to just focus on the wonderful year we’ve had with Peter and the joyful little boy he is becoming. I put together a short video to document the party, which you can watch here.
